The Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (Turkish Data Protection Law) is entered into force at 07.04.2016, and it puts the data controllers under lots of obligations and huge amount of administrative fines. Personal Data Protection Law no. 6698 indicates its purpose as that ” .. this Law is to protect fundamental rights and freedoms of people, particularly the right to privacy, with respect to processing of personal data and to set forth obligations, principles and procedures which shall be binding upon natural or legal persons who process personal data.” It also describes “personal data” as all the information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
